Chelsea Manning: From Whistleblower to Activist

A Decade of Imprisonment and Beyond

Chelsea Manning's Journey After Leaking Classified Documents

Chelsea Elizabeth Manning, born Bradley Edward Manning on December 17, 1987, is an American activist, whistleblower, and former United States Army intelligence analyst. Her life took a dramatic turn in 2010 when she provided WikiLeaks with a vast cache of classified documents, sparking a global debate on government transparency and the ethics of whistleblowing.

For her actions, Manning faced severe consequences. In 2013, she was convicted of espionage and other charges related to the leak and sentenced to 35 years in prison. However, in 2017, President Barack Obama commuted her sentence, and she was released after serving seven years behind bars.

Since her release, Manning has become an outspoken advocate for transparency, privacy, and the rights of transgender individuals. She has spoken at numerous events, written a book, and continues to raise awareness about the importance of whistleblowing and the need for government accountability.
