Renegades Unable to Overcome Slow Start
In the inaugural game of the United Football League (UFL), the Birmingham Stallions defeated the Arlington Renegades 27-14 on Saturday at Choctaw Stadium. Stallions quarterback Matt Corral led the way for his team, throwing for 250 yards and three touchdowns. The Renegades were unable to overcome a slow start, as they fell behind 17-0 in the first half.
The Stallions got on the board first with a 30-yard field goal by kicker Austin Seibert. Corral then connected with wide receiver Jalen Tolbert for a 50-yard touchdown pass to give the Stallions a 10-0 lead. The Renegades finally got on the board with a 25-yard field goal by kicker Cole Murphy, but the Stallions responded with another touchdown pass from Corral to Tolbert, this time from 20 yards out.
The Stallions defense played a big role in the victory, as they held the Renegades to just 213 total yards of offense. The Renegades had a chance to come back in the second half, but they were unable to convert on fourth down late in the game.
